Last week I posted an ode to a book I consider one of the best works in self-help/self-development genre.

While writing it I realized that I need to get moving and treat my body right. So I set a 21 day goal to ensure I respect my amazing body and work on my weight loss. I set some mini goals. Got active, ate right and did affirmations. Pushed myself a tad bit harder.

Today I am doing something that I feel equates to — Jumping into the deep end of the pool or like ALL IN in a high stakes poker game.

Losing weight is one of the top 3 on my Goals 2021 list. Why?

1. To avoid any future health hazards;

2. To get to a very fine fitness level so I can take part in outdoor activities effortlessly;

3. Can’t deny a little vanity does have something to do with it.

Another top 3 goal is to work towards writing my first book.

Today this crazy idea has appeared in my head. It will combine both my goals . The world will now be my accountability partner from now on.

I have to write weekly about my weight loss journey. Be accountable.

I am sticking my neck out. Making my very personal struggle completely public. Blame Mel Robbins a bit here. She said goals must be made public in her 2021 Incredible You course.

My ideal weight for my height should be around 50–53 kilos.

It’s approximately 110 pounds as measured in “developed” nations count.

Here’s a quick preview to this struggle:

First time around 2015 my weight jumped from a regular 51–52 kilos to 55–56 kilos, so I had to lose only 5kgs.

Easy peasy. Why didn’t I get to it? Trust me I want to know too.

Then it touched 60 kilos around 2016/2017 I had to lose only 10.

Blamed the world. Went on diets. Did workouts. Got frustrated. Ate whatever whenever. Worked crazy hours. Screwed my sleeping pattern. Stressed about everything possible in life. The body got even.

In 2018 my body weight touched 65 kgs. Now I had to lose 15 kgs.

OMG

POWER OF COMPOUNDING WORKS PEOPLE IN ALL AREAS OF LIFE. Q.E.D

(Am a finance professional, cannot resist the urge to help the readers. Remember — Compounding is simple yet the most effective tip for financial growth).

My target for weight loss was now 3X times in 5 years. Some of my investments were jealous of this stellar growth rate.

When you read this, you will think seriously girl what were you thinking ?

5 years is so much goddamn time. What was it that held you back?

Well I hate to admit this on the most public platform possible but here goes :

  • Inconsistency;
  • No discipline;
  • Lack of patience;
  • Not being able to manage stress;
  • A huge enormous “SWEET TOOTH” ( still have it) and
  • Mental fatigue at so many levels

Then in 2018, The doctor diagnosed me with Hyper Thyroidism.

Luckily. Yippee.

You must think I am crazy why would I say lucky when I was housing a detrimental health condition.

I was pretty harrowed with my weight anyways.

Wasn’t this amazing to shut everyone up and even my own nagging inner voice?

Now when the jabbers came with “Ami, looks like you have put on again, Why don’t you do something”

I will say I have a thyroid condition. It’s making put on weight.

Won’t have to admit to the the late night packet of chips and Oreos. The thick chocolate bars. The buttery tandoori chicken. The late night heavily caffeinated coffees. Sugar coated Nuttela waffles. The dripping cheese pizzas. The tender gulab jamuns. So much junk food I kept gorging. Add to that the non exercise mode too. So what?

Now I could blame it on “Thyroid issues” and get going “guilt-free”.

Thank god better sense prevailed. I say lucky because the diagnosis got me to wake up and understand my utter lack of respect towards my amazing body.

I made my poor body sick. It could no more withstand the torment I was unleashing on it daily. It was crying out for help.

I straightened out. I wanted to be Thyroid free. The Universe and my amazing mom led me to Naturopathy. No medication. My kind doctor helped overcome emotional and physical road blocks. With sheer will power and lifestyle changes I kicked ass and became thyroid free in 8 months.

Super gratitude here. I was disease-free.

Yet a difficult uphill journey remains. Being in the 4th decade of life, my metabolism ain’t that great. I still fall for my decadent temptations and workout still isn’t my favorite word.

2020 hit us with the pandemic.

It showed me that the strength of a human being is locked inside.

They key to that lock is in the hands of the human.

It’s left onto the human being to step up.

The choice is given :

Break through the self imposed “lock-down” and unleash the power inside.

It’s scarier than my Final CA( Chartered accountancy course) exams.

This is me asking you to help me grow into a healthier version of myself.

Cheer me.

Read my posts here.

Send me good wishes and vibes.

Ask me questions.

Whatever happens I am sure the blessings and kindness will flow once I hit the PUBLISH button.

It’s my leap of faith on the kindness the Universe has to offer.

All the readers will somewhere send me a small dose of power from wherever they are. Propel me towards my target.

I will be posting everything I do or do not do to stick to this goal through the week. Working on myself one day at a time.

I am killing 2 birds with one stone.

I have to write every week. Work on my weight loss journey. WIN-WIN

Practice and persevere.

I embark this journey starting right now. See ya next week.

A big thanks to Medium.com for providing me this platform to connect with all the magical word wizards in the world.

I have to thank my mentor Mr. Saurin Desai ( read “Dumbledore” of my writing world for now) for all his help. I hope I become his star student “Harry Potter”. I have the scars too.

Let the games begin.
